First practicing with the London firm of Reddie & Grose, John distinguished himself as a chartered patent agent both in the British Patent Office and in the European Patent Office. After moving to the United States and earning his American law degree in 1983, he focused on trademark, copyright and patent enforcement; state and federal intellectual property litigation; and a variety of brand strategy and management issues for a distinguished clientele at other well-known firms in Dallas.

John’s extensive expertise in state and federal intellectual property cases on both sides of the aisle has made him a sought-after litigator. He has represented clients in such diverse fields as healthcare, food and beverage, software, sports equipment and apparel. He has appeared before both the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board on appeals from District Court decisions and in trademark oppositions and ex-parte appeals. Having tried cases in many different U.S. federal court districts in Texas, he is familiar with the nuances of each court’s requirements.

John also finds time to serve as an adjunct professor at the Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University. In teaching trademarks and business torts courses to upper-level students, he shares his significant experience with a new generation of attorneys. John is also extremely active in the International Trademark Association, where he serves on the editorial staff of their Trademark Reporter publication, and in the Dallas Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Section. He is also a frequent lecturer on intellectual property and litigation subjects and has published several papers on these topics. John is a trained mediator and a member of the International Trademark Association’s Panel of Neutrals.

Your company’s biggest assets are ideas. Your success depends on what you’ve discovered, what you know, how you operate, and what you create—from the products you sell to the trademark you use to the software you’ve developed. When someone uses your ideas without permission, that person is hurting your business and profiting from your hard work. When someone wrongfully accuses you of using his or her ideas, your livelihood may be at stake.

Intellectual property litigation is highly complex and requires the attention of an experienced intellectual property attorney. If your intellectual property rights have been violated or you have been accused of the misappropriation or misuse of IP rights, you may wish to contact us at FBFK. In addition, if you would like to make certain that your intellectual property is well protected, our lawyers can help you avoid future lawsuits, disputes, and infringement issues.

Based in Plano, Texas, our firm represents clients throughout Texas and nationwide in connection with IP litigation, which includes:

  • Patent infringement
  • Copyright infringement
  • Trademark infringement and unfair competition
  • Misappropriation or theft of trade secrets
  • Computer software disputes
  • System Integration disputes
  • Technology contract disputes
  • Domain name disputes
  • E-commerce disputes
  • License disputes

We are also pleased to assist clients with patent and trademark applications, and other transactional, licensing and administrative matters.

When you need legal services, you want to be confident that your attorney has what it takes to help you. At the same time, you need to get the most value for your money. Our law firm offers the best of both worlds – high quality legal representation at a reasonable rate.

Your relationship with your attorney is an important one. Unlike the large law firms that might treat you like just another impersonal file that needs to be completed, our attorneys offer professional and personal attention to each case. Our goal is to create long-term relationships with our clients, rather than just a one-time opportunity to earn huge legal fees without concern for value.

We offer high-quality work, within a reasonable time, at a fair cost. Before undertaking a new project, we help our clients analyze their legal needs within the context of their business plan to ensure a successful result at the closing table or in the courtroom. We work with our clients to establish realistic budgets and goals for their situation. We will do the same for you.

At Ferguson Braswell Fraser Kubasta, we believe in long-term relationships with clients—we want to get to know your company and your goals, and we want to protect your business from litigation and financial mistakes through careful planning and analysis.
